Times Higher Education magazine’s world university ranking includes 39 Russian universities

Thirty-nine Russian universities listed in the ranking of the world’s best universities released by the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) on Webdesday. According to a TASS correspondent, authors of “THE World University Rankings 2020” say that since last year another four Russian universities made it into the ranking despite the increasingly fierce global competition in higher education.

Moscow State University remains a leader among Russian universities in the ranking, which includes 1,300 higher education institutions from 92 countries. Moscow State University managed to climb 10 positions, taking 189th place.

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology rose to group 201-250 from group 251-300, and the Higher School of Economics (HSE) moved to group 251-300 from group 301-350. St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics became the best university from outside the capital, having improved its performance compared to last year, and rose from group 501-600 to group 401-500 together with the National Research Nuclear University.

In total, five new Russian universities were included in the rating, of which the National Mineral Resources University (group 801-1000) took the highest position.
