Annual conference of the Russian-speaking community council took place in London

In London, the annual conference of the Russian-speaking community council of the UK was held. Election of the council’s chairman and trustees took place in the framework of the conference.

Participants and guests of the conference were addressed by the temporary charge d'affaires of Russia in the UK I.Volodin; the member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Y.Mishcheryakov; the representative of the government commission on compatriots living abroad, advisor to the department of compatriot relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia K.Shlykov; the representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in the UK A.Chesnokov; the member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation S.Kuznetsova; the representative of the Foundation for Supporting and Protecting the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad D.Fedotov; the Chairman of the Russian-speaking community council in the UK O.Sotnichenko, as well as representatives from various compatriots' organizations.

The conference drew conclusions from the Council’s work in 2018-2019, discussed activities of compatriot organizations in the UK and their further integration into the British legal framework. The conference also touched upon the questions of safeguarding the rights of compatriots, engagement of young people in the Council’s work, preserving the Russian heritage, popularizing Russian language and culture, and strengthening the positive image of Russia in the UK.

Sections “Working with the media”, “Russian school” and “Protecting the rights of compatriots” were also held in the framework of the event.

The conference was concluded with adoption of a final resolution.
