The UK-Russia Year of Music opened in Sochi

The city of Sochi opened a regional programme of the UK-Russia Year of Music 2019. For the first time, the Sochi Symphony Orchestra and the British pianist George Harliono performed the Second Piano Concerto by Tchaikovsky at the Winter Theater.

George Harliono regularly performs at various concert venues in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia. In 2016, the pianist performed Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. George played with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra and many others. In 2018, George gave a charity concert at the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in London.

The UK-Russia Year of will be a continuation of the programmes of previous years: the UK-Russia Year of Culture, the Year of Language and Literature and the Year of Science and Education. The year of music will last until mid-2020 and will end in Moscow with the Georg Handel Festival with participation of British artists. The Russian part of the programme of the Year of will open in July 2019 with a tour of the Bolshoi Ballet in London.
