125th anniversary of Marina Tsvetaeva was celebrated in London

In the run up to the 125th anniversary of the great Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, Russian essayist and culturologist Lidia Grigorieva presented the thematic evening "Marina Tsvetaeva in London and Yelabuga."

A screening of the film "Marina Tsvetaeva in London", authored by Lidia Grigoryeva, took place in the course of the event. The film tells about Tsvetaeva’s two-week stay in London in the spring of 1926, her relationship with the literary critic Prince Dmitry Svyatopolk-Mirsky, shows "Tsvetaeva" places in London against the background of Lydia Grigorieva's conversation with Alexandra Smith about the work and life of the great Russian poet.

The programme of the event also included presentation of the book "Gardens of Earth and Heaven" by Lidia Grigorieva. In March this year the book was presented by publishers at the London book fair. The book also included an essay dedicated to the last days of Marina Tsvetaeva in Yelabuga. Guests of the evening heard excerpts from the book, saw slides of modern Yelabuga, learned the facts of the historical significance of the city for Russian culture.
