This year Rossotrudnichestvo celebrates its 90th anniversary. The organization started off as All-Union Society for Cultural Relations in 1925, continued from 1958 as Union of Soviet Friendship Societies and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, as RusInterCentre in 1994 and in 2008 became a Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).

A national summer festival of Tatar and Bashkir culture - Sabantuy - was hosted in London. The concert programme included performers of Tatar, Bashkir, Russian and British songs and dances. Designers presented national costumes of peoples of Russian and the CIS countries.

The fair presented national souvenirs of peoples crafts. Guests had a chance to taste traditional cuisines. National games and sport contests attracted a lot of visitors. Master classes on traditional Tatar and Bashkir dances were given along with the best costume, best art piece and best music and dance performance awards. Read more »

Pupils of a Russian school were awarded with certificates in London

A formal award ceremony for pupils of the "Znaniye" school was hosted in the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office at the end of the academic year.

More than 50 students 3-13 years of age were given documents, confirming their success in learning Russian, literature, history and culture.

The concert prepared by students accompanied by teachers included various items: Holborn branch children presented a "Fair of talents" by performing songs, poems and dances, while Ealing branch first year pupils summarised their alphabet learning by singing a song about it. Read more »

London hosted a series of plays dedicated to Joseph Brodsky

Premier shows of the "Brodsky station" play, directed by Konstantin Kamensky, were presented in July 2016.

The play is based on a piece written by the director, inspired by works of Harold Pinter and Joseph Brodsky. This production is a perpetual dialogue of a man with his creator, a reflection about the purpose and the meaning of life.

The "Brodsky station" production exists in two styles: in a swimming pool and on stage, as the director Kamensky says "water had to be in a play, as I saw it from the very beginning of creating the spectacle". Hence the play was moved into a pool. However the on stage version also exists by bringing the personalities at the front. Read more »

In June 2016 Saint Petersburg hosted an educational programme, organised by the city committee on external relations for young compatriots, living abroad. The programme was supported by Rossotrudnichestvo, which allowed children from 15 countries, including Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Lebanon, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, France, Croatia and Estonia, to participate in it.

This trip has presented a unique opportunity for bilingual children to expand their knowledge about the mother tongue, history of Russia and meet new friends by immersing into the Russian language and cultural environment. Read more »

The academic year of the Russian Chess School of Rossotrudnichestvo has ended with a children tournament.

Young players 7-18 years old took part in the competition. The winners were awarded with medals and certificates, as well as an opportunity to take part in the intellectual contest participated by the best players of the chess schools of the Great Britain.

The Rossotrudnichestvo Russian Chess School runs its classes since 2013, teaching children from 4 years old.

On 9 July London hosted a large Family day of sport and culture, dedicated to the Day of family, love and faithfulness. The event was supported by a Governmental committee on compatriots living abroad.

The sports day has become a good tradition and attracts more people each year.

The event was organised by the "Znaniye" education fund and the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in London in cooperation with the Russian Embassy and a number of compatriots' organisations. Read more »

The Russian Children Book Festival took place in London in the framework of the Year of Language and Literature. The programme of the Festuival included various events, dedicated to Russian children literature and contemporary children writers.

The Festival finished its programme with a Maths Day in the Russian School of Mathematics and Programming at the representative office of Rossotrudnichesvo with Grigory Oster. Writer's naughty humor and soft way of speaking touches some special strings in children's and adult hearts. Unexpected suggestions like "and now portray boa's expression" guaranteed to bring a smile. Oster suggests not to be afraid of making fun out of the ordinary and sometimes even sad. Read more »

Theatre festival for young British compatriots

Continuing the children's theater festival "Karavay", organised by the director of the "Xameleon" Russian theater Dmitry Turchaninov and Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in London, UK theatre schools' students were able to present their works, share best practices and participate in master classes.

Drama group "Lesenka" From Northampton brought to Worcester a colourful play based on Pushkin's tales. The hosting theatre school "Fire bird" presented miniatures based on children literature.

Dmitry Turchaninov shared his knowledge with young actors. As a professional actor and director, who studied under the best Russian teachers, told children the ways to reach out their audiences.

Winners of the All-Britain Reciters' Competition were awarded in London

On 3 July London hosted an award ceremony of the winners of the All-Britain Reciters' Competition "The verb of tenses, my genius, my language". The "Znaniye" educational centre and the "Rusfond UK" charity foundation, with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo and Russian Embassy, organised the Competition. The event has also become a part of the campaign supporting one of the Foundation's fosterlings.

The representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Great Britain Anton Chesnokov on behalf of the Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko has awarded the head of the "Znaniye" educational centre Aina Mamaeva a diploma for long-term contribution to the development of culture and education. Read more »
