Cosmonaut Leonov drew a portrait of a famous scientist Stephen Hawking


On 21 May 2015 the Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov, the first man in open space, held a lecture at the Science Museum in London. The event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of his flight. During the lecture Mr.Leonov described his historical space mission in detail.

The lecture was attended by Counsellor for Scientific and technical cooperation of the Russian Embassy in the UK, Ernest Chernukhin. Among the numerous guests were renowned scientist, Stephen Hawking and Britain’s first cosmonaut, Helen Sharman. Read more »

On 20 May Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev approved the Russian Language Federal Targeted Programme for 2016-2020.

The Head of the Government discussed realization of the Programme with with head of Rossotrudnichestvo Lyubov Glebova and President of the Russian Academy of Education Ludmila Verbitskaya.

The Federal Targeted Programme will support teaching of Russian in different countries. This will strengthen position of the Russian language and its spread across the globe. In the framework of the Programme the number of teachers of the Russian language, as well as the number of Russian schools will increase. Read more »

On 18 May compatriots and British people gathered at Rossotrudnichestvo representative office to commemorate Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Presentation of a book “Mother Earth” by Chinghiz Aitmatov was supported by musical and theatrical performance. The main character of the book is a rural woman who has lost the most valuable things during the war but stood strong and derived strength from her love to people.  Read more »

Rossotrudnichestvo opened a series of free online broadcasting of performances from Moscow theatres for compatriots living abroad

The first broadcasting from a series of free online broadcasting of performances from Moscow theatres to foreign countries took place on 16 May at Rossotrudnichestvo representative office.

Guests of the representative offices of Rossotrudnichestvo in 11 countries could see the play “Okayomov’s lifetime” at Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre.

Visitors from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, South Ossetia, Israel, Moldavia, Serbia, Mongolia, USA and Great Britain joined Moscow audience and saw the play dedicated to the jubilee of a People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Etush who is the leading actor in the play. Read more »

A ceremony of commemorative cancellation of postal stamps issued by the Russian Post and an International Philatelic Exhibition were held in London

On 14 May the Russian National Academy of Philately presented an exposition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory over fascism and 175th anniversary of the world’s first postal stamp.

The official ceremony of commemorative cancellation of a postal block issued in Russia on 9 May in honour of 70th anniversary of the Victory over fascism and a postal stamp dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the first stamp, the Penny Black, took place in the framework of the exhibition. The ceremony of postal cancellation was hosted by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko. Bulat Okudzhava evening dedicated to the 70th annual of the Great Victory was held in London

An evening dedicated to the work of veteran, poet, composer and litterateur Bulat Okudzhava took place at Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in London.

Traditionally, all events dedicated to celebration of the Great Victory begin with the words of gratitude to veterans and witnesses of the war period. That evening words of gratitude were also addressed to a Leningrad resident who survived the blockade and was present at the event.

More than a hundred of guests attended the evening  to honour the memory of Bulat Okudzhava on his birthday. At the age of 17 Bulat Okudzhava went off to war voluntarily, participated in battles and was seriously wounded and demobilised. He wrote his first song at the front. Read more »

Veterans were awarded with medals in honour of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory

On 9th May a wreath laying ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial was organised by the Soviet Memorial Trust Fund with the support of the Russian Embassy, Embassies of CIS member states and Rossotrudnichestvo to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism.

The central event on the territory of The United Kingdom was wreath laying at the Soviet War Memorial. The Memorial was established in 1999 in the park adjacent to the Imperial War Museum.

Nearly 1000 guests gathered near the Memorial. Adults and children came to express their gratitude to the veterans and pay tribute to victims of the bloodiest war in the history of mankind. Read more »

More than 500 events dedicated to the Victory Day take place at representative offices of Rossotrudnichesto in 80 countries. Russian Centres of Science and Culture that participate in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War unite compatriots all over the world.

The Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Lubov Glebova noted that the Great Patriotic War remains one of the most sensitive topics for Russian people and compatriots living abroad. For that reason all events aim to show the true causes and the real results of the Second World War and prevent rewriting of the history. Read more »

Restoration of the Soviet War Memorial in London

Restoration works were held at the Soviet War Memorial in the park of the Imperial War Museum in London before the celebration of the Victory Day.

On the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism Soviet Memorial Trust Fund and the Society for Co-operation in Russian and Soviet Studies (SCRSS) organised restoration of the memorial. The memorial was erected 15 years ago in memory of 27 million Soviet citizens who died during the Second World War. Read more »

On 7 May Rossotrudnichestvo representative office hosted a memorable evening dedicated to the Victory Day. As part of the evening the opening of exhibitions and a presentation of a historical book about the Second World War took place.

The officials, Russian and British citizens expressed their sincere gratitude to the veterans who attended the evening.

In the framework of the evening the opening of a joint project of Rossotrudnichestvo and the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia “Faces of Victory” was held. Events in honour of 70th anniversary of the Victory take place in London

On 4 May screening of a series of some well-known films about the Great Patriotic War began.

Audience watched the film by Grigoriy Chukhray about the life of an airman during and after the war “Clear Skies”. Screenings will be followed by Leonid Bykov’s film “Only Old Men Are Going to Battle” that tells a story of fighter pilots during the Great Patriotic War and a film by Sergei Bondarchuk They Fought for Their Country” about the heroism of ordinary soldiers, love for the motherland and the true price of victory. Conference “Cultural and media products as an instrument of integration” was held in London

From 28 April to 2 May a meeting of members of the partnership “Cultural and media products as an instrument of integration” took place. This is a two-year partnership of organisations from seven European countries supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme of the Grundtvig Fund. The project aims to help talented Russian-speaking people to meet and exchange knowledge. The partnership strives to represent contemporary Russia and overcome stereotypes through the prism of culture, music and cinema. Read more »
